Amazon's famous live streaming platform continues to evolve. The fixed price of $4.99 per month, worldwide, will adapt to different localities. This local subscription pricing will allow less fortunate viewers in certain countries to support their favorite twitch streamer or streamer. But what about streaming in France?
TWITCH, AMAZON'S STREAMING PLATFORM
Launched in 2011, Twitch is a live video streaming service. This platform, which began by focusing on the gaming universe , has since evolved. Acquired in 2014 by the giant Amazon for nearly 1 billion dollars, Twitch is doing wonderfully and wishes to develop its streaming offer in all territories. The growth of Twitch goes through more viewers, but also through a multiplication of subs.
ONE FREE SUB TWITCH PER MONTH WITH AMAZON PRIME
Although watching streamers' content live is completely free, it is possible to subscribe to a channel every month. This subscription on Twitch allows both to support the streamer financially but also offers a whole host of advantages.
With this Twitch subscription, you get ad-free viewing and unlocking custom emoticons offered by each streamer.
SUBSCRIPTION PRICES WILL CHANGE LOCALLY
Until now, the price of Twitch subs (= subscription) was set at $4.99 per month, for everyone. The streamer and Twitch split the base subscription price equally ($2.50). Since 2017, the platform offers viewers three other types of subscriptions offering more attributes.
With a subscription of $9.99 and $24.99, viewers can get up to 60 emotes while rewarding their Twitch partner streamer more advantageously. With the affiliation to Amazon, it is even possible to obtain a “free” monthly subscription to give away.
If you have a Prime subscription from Amazon offering free and fast shipping on the e-commerce platform, Twitch grants you a free subscription called Prime Gaming (formerly Twitch Prime) valid for a single streamer. Each month, you can then choose to share this Twitch Prime at no additional cost to a different streamer.
MEXICO AND TURKEY SEE THEIR TARIFFS LOWER
If the price of $4.99 may seem reasonable in France, this is not necessarily the case in all countries which do not have the same purchasing power as the United States. So much so that after several years of reflection, Twitch has decided to modify its price list to adapt to each locality.
Subs will thus see their price aligned with local currencies and the purchasing power of the country. The initiative will therefore begin on May 20, 2021 with Mexico and Turkey . The basic monthly subscription will therefore increase to 48 pesos (about 2€) for the North American country. As for Turkey, the Twitch sub will now cost 9.99 Turkish liras, or about 1 euro.
TOWARDS A DROP IN TWITCH SUBS IN FRANCE?
A change in prices is also planned for the 3rd quarter of 2021 for countries in Asia, South America, the African continent as well as Europe and the Middle East. France should therefore see its subscription also evolve, but in what direction? Currently the $4.99 corresponds to €4.08 for French spectators. Will the cost of the sub be brought down slightly to €3.99, or rather increase to €4.99. Only Twitch has the answer.
THE REVENUES OF FRENCH STREAMERS SHOULD NOT FALL
On the side of French streamers, this evolution in the price generates some concern for those living from this activity on Twitch. They could see their revenue per subscriber drop slightly in the event of a drop in subscriptions on the French Twitch.
Nevertheless Twitch plans to guarantee streamers stability in their income , while the new economic model is put in place for a few months.
